Celebrating the 2024/2025 School Year

French Immersion

Learning the French language, an official language of Canada, enriches students’ lives, enhances their understanding of other cultures, and celebrates diversity. French Immersion is a District Program that works towards functional fluency in French for students. The Chilliwack School District offers both early and late French Immersion programs.

Early French Immersion (EFI)

Online applications for students entering kindergarten can be submitted any after October 1 by visiting https://sd33.bc.ca/registration. Please ensure that you register your kindergarten child at their catchment area school, as placement in the French Immersion program is not guaranteed. To apply for the Early Immersion program, select Cheam Elementary (EFI) as your school of choice. If the number of applications exceeds the number of spaces available, a lottery system for selection will be used, within the parameters of our Selection Process. All applications received by 12:00 pm on Friday January 9, 2026, will be included in this draw.

Applications after the draw can be made online by selecting Cheam Elementary as your school of choice. If space is not available, applicants will be added to the wait list. Please note, kindergarten and grade one students do not require previous French experience.

Late French Immersion (LFI)

Online applications for students entering Grade 6 in September 2025 can be submitted at any time by visiting https://sd33.bc.ca/registration. Select Chilliwack Middle School (LFI) or Vedder Middle School (LFI) as your school of choice. If the number of applications exceeds the number of spaces available, a lottery system for selection will be used, within the parameters of our Selection Process. All applications received by 12:00 pm on February 10, 2025, will be included in this draw.

Applications after February 10 at 12:00pm can also be made online by selecting Chilliwack Middle School or Vedder Middle School as your school of choice. If space is not available, applicants will be added to the wait list. Please note, Grade Six students do not require previous French experience.
