Learning the French language, an official language of Canada, enriches students’ lives, enhances their understanding of other cultures, and celebrates diversity. French Immersion is a District Program in Chilliwack that works towards functional fluency in French for students.
The Chilliwack School District offers both early and late French Immersion programs.Early French Immersion (EFI)
Online applications for students entering Kindergarten can be submitted at any time by visiting https://sd33.bc.ca/registration. Please ensure that you register your kindergarten child at their catchment area school, as placement in the Immersion program is not guaranteed. To apply for the Early Immersion program, select Cheam Elementary (EFI) as your school of choice. If the number of applications exceeds the number of spaces available, a lottery system for selection will be used, within the parameters of our Selection Process. All applications received by 12:00 pm on Friday January 3, 2025 will be included in this draw.
Applications after January 3th can also be made online by selecting Cheam Elementary as your school of choice. If space is not available, applicants will be added to the existing wait list. Please note, kindergarten and grade one students do not require previous French experience.
BUSING IS NOT PROVIDED FOR OUT-OF-CATCHMENT EARLY FRENCH IMMERSION STUDENTS.
Late French Immersion (LFI)
Parent Meeting (Registration NOT Required): January 29, 2025 at 7pm on Zoom
Online applications for students entering Grade 6 in September 2025 can be submitted at any time by visiting https://sd33.bc.ca/registration and select either Chilliwack Middle School (LFI) or Vedder Middle School (LFI) as your school of choice. If the number of applications exceeds the number of spaces available, a lottery system for selection will be used, within the parameters of our Selection Process. All applications received by 12:00 pm on February 10, 2025 will be included in this draw.
Applications after February 10 at 12:00pm can also be made online by selecting either Chilliwack Middle School or Vedder Middle School as your school of choice. If space is not available, applicants will be added to the existing wait list. Please note, grade six students do not require previous French experience.
If you are inquiring about our French Immersion program at the secondary school level, applications can be made online by selecting Sardis Secondary School. If space is not available, applicants will be added to the existing wait list.
