School Trustees
School trustees are locally elected representatives of the public who advocate for public education on behalf of the community. Trustees are members of the Board of Education. The board sets strategic direction and local policy, establishes the district’s annual budget, and advocates for public education on behalf of the community. Trustees focus on student achievement and well-being. They make decisions to benefit the entire district while representing the interests of everyone in the community.
The Ministry of Education sets the general direction for K-12 education including curriculum, funding amounts, and the legal framework within which boards must operate. The responsibilities of the Ministry of Education and boards of education are detailed in the School Act.
