LEARN FROM HOME: TRANSITION SUPPORT

Elementary & Middle

Duration: Temporary support for students who are not attending their catchment school in person (COVID related reasons). This support is conducted by means of distributed learning.

Supports:

  • A teacher will support in key learning areas: language arts, math and core competencies which are central to the curriculum and are foundational to all learning.
  • Student remains connected to their school and classroom
  • Students will learn remotely at home with the assistance of a teacher assigned by the district (not their regular classroom teacher).
  • The Homebound Online Teacher will connect with students periodically throughout the week.

What to expect:

  • September 14 to 18 - School-based classroom teachers will provide material for students to work at home with a focus on Literacy, Numeracy and Social & Emotional learning
  • September 21 - Transition Support teacher provides support to the student with regular instruction with a focus on Literacy, Numeracy and Social & Emotional learning
  • Microsoft Teams will be used as the platform for supporting learning

Secondary

Duration: Temporary support for students who are not attending their catchment school (COVID related reasons). This support is conducted by means of distributed learning.

Supports:

  • A teacher will support at home learning in one course for Octet 1 (Personal Development 10/11/12). Other courses will be considered through the year based on need.
  • Student remains connected to their school and classroom
  • Students will learn remotely at home with the assistance of a district-based teacher. Plans beyond Octet 1 are still in development and will be limited in course choice.
  • The Transition Support Teacher will connect with students periodically throughout the week. Access: Please contact your school principal to discuss this option

What to expect: 

  • September 14:  Student will be contacted by the distributed learning teacher and begin the Personal Development course.  This is a 5 week course and must be completed within the first octet.
  • TBA:  Course offerings for future octets will be determined based on student needs.
  • Microsoft Teams will be used as the platform for supporting learning

NOTE: Students enrolled in a remote learning option will have the option of returning to In-Class Learning. (Secondary: at the beginning of each Octet.)
