Supporting Student Success Over the Summer!
Friday, June 26, 2026
The strategic plan sets the direction for the Chilliwack School District. Together, the vision, purpose, and values guide our focus on shared priorities and drive ongoing improvement in the district. The strategic plan was unanimously approved by the Board of Education at the June 30th, 2025 public board meeting.
Student success is one of our four strategic priorities. Our student success goals are literacy, numeracy, well-being, and transitions. Learn how staff are supporting student success by visiting our Strategic Plan Storybook.
Support Literacy, Numeracy, Well-being and Transitions
We're sharing tips for families on how to support literacy, numeracy, well-being, and transitions this summer.
Literacy
The free Sora app offers eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines for students. It is a quick and easy way for students to borrow digital titles on virtually any device. Students simply log in using their school credentials.
The Summer Reading Club is a free program offered by the public library for 5- to 14-year-olds. Summer Reading Club helps learners keep reading and learning over summer vacation.
Numeracy
The district literacy team is sharing tips on how to support your child with math over the break. Talk about numbers and math in the world around you. Foster positive attitudes about math through play and fun family experiences. Practice basic addition and multiplication facts together. There are easy ways to incorporate math into everyday adventures!
UBC Science also has great information on keeping math skills sharp this summer.
Well-being
Chilliwack Community Services, Chilliwack Youth Health Centre, Inclusion Chilliwack, and the YMCA offer resources and summer programs. These include activities such as CYHC’s Youth Activities Resiliency Development (YARD) and Inclusion Chilliwack’s Sunshine Drive Block Party. Check their websites or social media channels for more info!
Transitions
The summer is a time of change. Students and families are anticipating transitions to new grades, and some are moving to new schools.
Between June and August, families of kindergarten students will receive information from their schools. See a sample gradual entry schedule on our website.
Visit school websites to learn about school communities, athletics, clubs, and more. All middle and secondary schools host orientation events to welcome incoming grade 6 and grade 9 students. Check your school website for details!
Newcomer Orientation Week (NOW) is a fun, welcoming 3-day experience for students who are newcomers to Canada. Students can meet and connect with students from schools across Chilliwack. Register online.
Have a Great Summer
We wish all our students and their families a safe and happy summer. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on September 8th.
