School District Issues RFQ For New South Side Elementary/Middle School Design-Build Project

School District No. 33 (Chilliwack) has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the South Side Elementary/Middle School Design-Build Project.

The Board of Education of School District No. 33 (Chilliwack) is seeking a design-builder to undertake the design and construction of a new elementary/middle school facility on its newly acquired site in south Chilliwack.

The Chilliwack School District's recently acquired site will host its new kindergarten to grade eight South Side Elementary/Middle School, filling a regional need by combining elementary and middle school grade configurations. Its beautiful location, next to the Vedder River and surrounded by nature, including green space, park space, outdoor trails and the Blue Heron Reserve, connect it with the outdoors and provide the ideal support for a community of learners. In the spirit of active collaboration, students within this setting will work with teachers, peers and the community to learn to care for themselves, for others and for the environment.

The new South Side Elementary/Middle School will provide a variety of world-class educational opportunities and programs to meet the needs of students and the requirements of the BC Curriculum. Through outstanding instruction and assessment, enabled by state-of-the-art programs and facilities, students will develop confidence to meet the future, and to create it.

The new Chilliwack South Side Elementary/Middle School will seek to nurture healthy learning and teaching practices with a significant portion of the school year spent in meaningful outdoor settings. Educators will use the current curriculum to conceptualize and organize environmental learning. Experiences in natural settings will be created so that diversity, complexity, stewardship and sustainability become part of the students' understanding of their home and world.

A selection process will be used to identify a shortlist of up to three qualified respondent teams that will be invited to respond to a Request for Proposals.  The RFQ outlines the overall scope of the project, the requirements for the responses to the RFQ, and the process to be used to select the shortlisted respondents.

Interested parties can view and obtain the RFQ, including the registration form on BC Bid at www.bcbid.gov.bc.ca.  The Contact Person for the RFQ is also indicated on BC Bid.”
