Frequently Asked Questions

What are the WEX 12 Requirements?

To complete the 90-hour WEX 12 Work Experience requirement, it is recommended that students spread their placements over grades 11 and 12. WEX 12 students are encouraged to complete placements at employers that reflect the student's focus area. For example, if a student is registered in a WEX 12 Foods program, he/she should do the majority of placement hours in a kitchen environment (e.g. restaurants, caterers, etc.)

WEX 12 students need to register with the Work Experience Dept. to receive a placement. Simply request a Work Experience registration form from your WEX 12 teacher, complete the form, and return it to your school office. We do the rest! We will come to the school to talk with you about your placement options and create a schedule that works for you!

In certain cases, WEX 12 students can also use paid or volunteer work for credit. Just check the appropriate box on your registration form to indicate your request, and make sure to provide your employer's/supervisor's contact information in the box provided. Students that wish to receive credit for paid or volunteer work need to complete a WEX 12 Training Plan form, available through the Work Experience Dept.

Why should I take WEX 12?

Students that complete their WEX 12 requirements receive 4 extra credits toward graduation, and are highly employable. To find out about the WEX 12 programs that are offered at your school, or to apply for the program of your choice, see your school Counsellor or Career Advisor.

When am I eligible for WEX 12?

Completion of Work Experience placement hours typically occurs over grades 11 and 12.
